Our first meeting was held on Sept 10, 2011 at 7pm on the rooftop patio at 350 Queens Quay West. The meeting lasted 90 minutes and was a great success. There were many ideas shared, and much of our time was spent defining our organizational structure. It is a primary goal to be inclusive and allow all tenants at 350 and 390 Queens Quay West to the benefits of membership. We hope to shape a better relationship between management and residents, and grow our community. If you’re a tenant and didn’t receive an invitation, kindly get in touch. There are no membership fees – but donations are welcome.
The barbeque starter doesn’t work, so we visited Kumar’s store and purchased a lighter. The maintenance issue is one felt by all residents in attendance, and we’re planning on bringing this issue to a wider audience. This is the key justification behind the formation of our association. It was widely felt that we’ll get nowhere with the rental office as they’re aware of the issues, and go to great lengths to deny that there are problems. We’ve agreed to hold a vote at our next meeting to decide on whether to contact the rental office, escalate it to Briarlane property management, or get someone in the traditional media to raise awareness. It was believed that the latter option would probably be most effective. We welcome your feedback if you’ve got any ideas on different methods of addressing this issue.
In the interests of including all tenants in future meetings, we’ve decided to conduct our next meeting offsite. This will allow the tenants of 390 Queens Quay West to attend without the issues of gaining entrance through a locked door.
Our next Maple Leaf Quay tenant’s association meeting will be held: September 14th @ 7pm at the Coffee Time Donuts on the corner of Queens Quay and Spadina Avenue. Please bring a recent hydro bill, or another form of proof that you are presently a tenant at Maple Leaf Quay. Membership is only open to residents of MLQ, and it was unanimously agreed that security measures will be in effect. Some of our members have formed tenant associations in the past, and felt that security is key in the prevention of rights violations. Luckily we’ve already got an attorney on-board, so this should very straightforward.
Cheers!
The MLQ Tenants Association
